Turn off the water to the leak
If the leak is coming from a specific tap, toilet or appliance, you may only need to isolate that one.
Look for a small slotted valve on the pipe under the sink, behind the toilet or behind the appliance. A quarter turn closes it.
If you cannot tell where it is coming from, turn off the main stop tap. It is often under the kitchen sink or by the meter.
Turn the handle clockwise until it stops. Do not force it if it is seized.
Open the cold taps to drain what is left in the pipes.

How do I know if I have a hidden leak?
Turn off every tap and appliance and look at your water meter. If the dial is still moving, water is escaping. Damp patches, musty smells and a higher water bill are other signs.
Do you find and fix the leak?
Yes. We trace the leak, repair it and explain what we found. If a leak is under a slab or driveway and needs specialist detection equipment, we tell you that up front.
Is a water leak an emergency?
If water is pouring out or coming through a ceiling, yes. Turn off the water and call us. A slow drip is less urgent, but it still causes damage over time, so do not leave it for weeks.
Do you charge for the quote?
No. The plumbing assessment and the quote are free. We explain the price before any work begins and do not start until you agree.
How quickly can you get to me?
We give you an arrival time on the phone before we set off. It depends on where you are, the time of day and the traffic.
Who fixes a leak outside my property?
The water company is responsible for the main up to your boundary. We repair the pipework you own, including the supply from the boundary to your stop tap.
Does home insurance cover a water leak?
Many policies do, but it depends on your policy. Take photos before you clear up and keep your repair paperwork. Check the terms with your insurer.
